In New England, it has been an interminably cool and wet May. We are all tired of it. But as the rhyme teaches us . . Showers Bring Flowers. The sky may be grey EVERY DAY, but my perennial garden is lush and out of control with color right now. In particular, I have a field of Forget-Me-Nots, a notoriously finicky, ‘box of chocolates’ plant that presents itself each Spring in varying places and densities . . ‘you never know what you will get’. In the seventeen years we have lived here, I have never seen so many. It is so beautiful So when my English Bulldog who has no sense of boundaries, limits or personal space went trudging through the delicate flowers, my first reaction was to be angry. But as I called out to rebuke her and she turned to look at me, the scene was so amazing that I had to abandon any disciplinary measures and grab my camera. The lighting was perfect and in the juxtaposition of brawn and fragility, she looks ‘almost pretty’, don’t you think?
The extended forecast shows sun and warmer temperatures next week. Who is ready to enjoy our 8 weeks of summer?
